You've signed up on CareerVillage, you have a dozen questions floating in your mind, but when you get to the page to post questions, you're stumped on how to ask it. If you've been in a similar situation, this guide is for you!
-
Be direct and concise.
When asking your question, be as direct as possible. For instance, if you are interested in learning about that challenges that nurses face ask something along the lines of "As a nurse, what is the hardest part of your job?". Notice that the specific career is mentioned in the title so that professionals know exactly what information you're looking for.
-
Pose your question in the form of a question
Although this might sounds a little obvious, please try to put your question in the form of the question. For example, instead of saying "I want to know more about med school" pose it as "What steps do I need to take in order to get to med school?".
-
Give context for your question
The body of the question is the perfect place to give more details about you're interested in the topic and elaborate on your specific situation. We have found that questions with longer context messages tend to get answered with longer pieces of advice, from more people, and more quickly than questions with very short context messages.
-
Ask career related questions!
Please refrain from asking questions that are not related to a career. We at CareerVillage.org believe that any question can be a career related question given the right context but there are certain things that would still be considered off topic. For instance, do not post questions asking what the meaning of life is as it will be deleted
- Post one question at a time. If you post all your questions in one field, professionals might be overwhelmed and unable to answer each question.
-
Use relevant hashtags
This helps professionals in that specific field see your question and increases the chance that is gets answered. For example, is your question is related to welding do not tag it as #nursing or simply use #job
Be mindful with your hashtags
